In March 1998, a member of Abu Dhabi's ruling family who had learned jiu-jitsu in a San Diego strip mall put the champions of judo, sambo, wrestling, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu on the same mat under one neutral rule set. Twenty-eight years later, ADCC gold is still the hardest single title in submission grappling — even as a million-dollar rival now schedules itself against it.
